Doyle Creek Land and Cattle Company is a working commercial cattle ranch, actually consisting of three ranches owned and operated by Randy and Judy Mills, daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Troy Dawson, and
daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Frank Harper.
Doyle Creek Ranch serves as the main headquarters and is located in Marion County just southeast of Florence, Kansas. The ranch is situated on Doyle Creek, so-named after Patrick Doyle, the first settler in Marion County in 1959. The historic limestone two-story house built by Mr. Doyle in 1882 has been home to the Mills family for over 30 years. The other two ranches are the Turkey Springs Ranch and the Gilmore Creek Ranch.
The Turkey Springs Ranch is located on Turkey Springs creek in southeastern Chase County. Nestled deep in Flint Hills territory, one can flash back to the early 1800s and experience the real Flint Hills by riding across the rolling prairie.
The Gilmore Creek Ranch lies 2 miles northwest of the El Dorado reservoir in northeast Butler County. The small bluestem grass is home to the majority of the summer grazing.
Native bluestem pasture is the primary feed source on the
ranches, and all units utilize brome grass for pasture and hay. Emphasis is placed on improving the ecology of the ranch so it can sustain future generations.
The Ranch was established in the mid-1950s and continued to expand through the 1960s. In 1969, the Mills family became involved full time in the operation and took over the management in 1980.
The Doyle Creek Mercantile was established by Judy Mills and Sara Dawson in 2005, who own and manage this portion of the business.
The Mercantile includes the store, as well as the Loft, a guest lodging located above the Mercantile, and the Mercantile Corral, which offers catering and services for groups and private parties.
